5 unusual podcast recommendations you didn’t ask for but will definitely like
I see you thinking: Not another podcast recommendation post– HARD PASS!!!
But wait–before you click that bulging red ‘X’, hear me out.
These are not your usual finance bro, tech bro, manifest-that-shit, two-girls-giggling-for-three-hours kinda podcasts.
These are unusual, listen-in-the-background, get-the-inside-jokes, really niche podcasts that I guarantee you won’t find on other people’s podcast recommendations list…because I’m just weird like that.
I also hear you thinking: Why should I care, Sumbo?
Well, because you need a break.
A break from your daily grind.
A break from your playlist.
A break from your hustle podcasts.
A break from your “manifest six-figures” affirmations.
A break from all the typical podcast recommendations for entrepreneurs that people say you should be listening to.
Someone once did research that showed experiencing new things makes your brain reward you with a little dopamine release.
But what do I know? I’m just a random person on the internet pushing my weird podcast recommendations on you with puppy eyes.
On to the weirdness, shall we…
1. “My Dad Wrote A Porno”. Yes, we’re starting really weird and strong here. You raised a brow, didn’t you? This was “My One” podcast that sucked me into the podcast world. Some guy’s dad wrote a series of sexy novels, and we all have the grace of having it read to us and being actively reviewed. If you’re up for huge laughs and lots of cringe, start with the older episodes (Book 1) and work your way up to…wait for it…Book 14! (But the podcast stops at Book 6).
Yes, this is a real book series. And the author is called Rocky Flintstone. And yes, Rocky Flintstone Jr. and his friends read the books to us— chapter by chapter. Last I checked, the last episode was in March 2024, but trust me, there are enough episodes to keep you busy until Belinda Blinks again (you’ll get it once you listen to any episode!)
2. Duped: The Dark Side of Online Business. I found this podcast in the first half of the year of our Lord 2025. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, but when I found it, I was sure that I had found the holy grail that all online business owners should listen to. You see, as a small business owner/entrepreneur dabbler myself, I have unfortunately entrenched myself in the online business world and have come across quite a few shady, scammy, and not-so-nice offers and practices that I wish I knew how to smell from several kilometres away.
If you’re still figuring out this whole entrepreneurship shit, promise me you won’t buy another $197 course, mastermind, one-on-one mentorship, or monthly membership before you listen to at least one episode of this!
3. A Beautiful Anarchy: I LOVE this podcast, even though the last episode was released in 2022. These are short bites of no-nonsense, think-aloud inspiration that I felt was missing when I was in my “lettering artist” phase. This is definitely NOT woo-woo but feels more like a really cool dude having a conversation with you over a couple of beers at the bar. Really cool and definitely worth it.
Bonus points: they are quite short! The longest episode I listened to was a little over 22 minutes long.
4. If you like gossip like I do, then Normal Gossip is for you. And yes, it is exactly what it sounds like– gossip from all over the world from everyday people like you and me. There will be laughs, there will be WTFs, there will be very niche juicy gossip, and a few gasps along the way.
I recommend starting with older episodes because there was a change in the hosts recently, and I’m still trying to decide if this podcast is still for me.
5. Tea Time Unfiltered with Lovelyti. This is actually the audio version of a YouTuber’s videos, called Lovelyti, whom I follow quite religiously. I’ve been a long-time subscriber since 2014, and her channel is still awesome. She covers pop culture, local and international news, celebrity gossip, and occasionally throws in a few conspiracy theories. Her range is really diverse. Think Wendy Williams, but without a network to silence her or industry friends to control her, and served with a huge side of critical thinking and reality checks.
Honourable Mention:
5.1: Even the Royals. This is a really cool and dramatic take on royal history figures and the people who surround their orbit. Go behind the scenes and get to know the intimate lives of Marie Antoinette, Dowager Cixi, Rasputin, all six wives of Henry VIII, every other Henry, Charles and Richard, and all their wild reigns. The research is in-depth, the hosts are funny, and there might be some light court-fainting due to some of their language, but it’s definitely worth it.
All podcasts are available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and anywhere you get your podcasts. Now that I have officially become a podcast recommendation pusher, I’m curious: have you ever heard of any of these podcasts?
Put my “not on other people’s lists” claim to shame, and let’s nerd out together on YOUR recommendations, your take, and (if applicable) your hate for podcasts in the comments. Can’t wait to hear from you.
